RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and is the normal means by which the Catholic Church receives new members.
How long does the RCIA process take?
The entire discernment and education process of reception into the Church typically goes from September to the next year's Easter Vigil Mass (usually in April). However, exceptions can be made for special circumstances as determined by the pastor.
03
When and where are RCIA meetings?
Meeting days and times are determined by group availability. While it is preferred that sessions are held with the entire group, special appointments may be made as needed. Meetings are held either in the Parish Office or the Fitzgerald Center.
04
How long are RCIA meetings?
Meetings are typically between 1 - 2 hours. This is determined by the chapters covered in the session (number and length) and the level of conversation of the session. While it is perferred those atteding stay for the duration of the session, there is flexibility in this area.
05
What is a typcal RCIA session like?
Sessions are intentional in their focus, yet informal in their application. This is with the intention of making sessions welcoming and still productive for those involved. Because evey candidate is coming in with a different degree of background knowledge of the faith, questions are strongly encouraged at any point in the session. We want candidates, future Catholics, to take ownership of their burgeoning faith.
06
Is there a book used?
Yes. At our Parish we use "What it Means to be Catholic" by Monsignor Joseph M. Champlin. This book contains the most basic, understandable overview of the rich, Catholic faith in an attracive, easy to read manner. Chapters are short and contain many helpful photos, tables and captians to enhance the candidates learning experience.
07
Can I attend even if I'm not interested in becoming Catholic?
Absolutely. All are welcome. This is also a teaching ministry and we are happy to share the beauty and wisdom of Christ and His Church.
